Hello Again!

It's been FOREVER since i posted here. Mostly I have been concentrating on my parenting blog, as that is all i've been doing for a long time! at the end of march my son, Dylan was born and he has been wonderful!! He sleeps! and when he sleeps ..... I craft! Here is what I've been up to the last few weeks!

My new beach tote for taking the kiddies and all their crap to the many beaches near our house!

A nice little crochet blanket for Dylan ... it's more than halfway done now! The stitch is a diagonal box stitch.

I've been very busy, doing a lot of crafting, but i have kind of combined my two blogs into one. My personal/parental blog is meshing with the crafty/arty side of my life so I am running ahead with that one. I am blogging EVERYDAY!! And so far keeping up with the new format I've set up for it. I actually started tow painting tonight! I really didn't think I'd have the energy, but Jack went to sleep so quickly that I couldn't help myself. Both painting have a long ways to go as I've only done one or two layers on each ..... but hey it felt good to be doing art as opposed to crochet! Alright off to bed!

New Pattern New Blog?

I am toying with the idea of abandoning this blog and starting a new craft related one pertaining to my etsy store. It would basically be the same, just called Jackaruu instead of forever ongoing. Not sure though ..... Anyways I've finished writing and testing the new frog prince pattern. I did a little photo shoot of the two frogs I've finished, but am not totally happy with the results. I need to fnd a better background or have my husband take a photo of them in my hands. They look cute with their legs dangling. Right now my husband is working on our kitchen reno and i am trying to keep my cool while hanging out with jack, though it's been rather difficult this afternoon. He has closed his room and is holding up in there with his soothers..... supposed to be only for nap time. I've got two baby blankets on the go now and am going to start a modile for our room/baby corner soon so I'm keeping busy. Okay gotta see what my little one is up to!

I've been working on a capelet or poncho type thing for our Calgary trip .... it feels great on, so nice and cozy! I realized while sewing that I don't have a nice functional (and cute) pin cushion, so I've been working on a frog prince pin cushion and drafting a pattern for it as well! Hoping to get it in the shop by the end of this weekend! I'll have photos up soon as I perfect it!

Baking

I've been doing a bit of baking. Just finihsed up at large batch of wee gingerbread men! Their faces are a bit crazy, but i am sure they'll taste good. Also i tried some embroidery for the first time. I used the blanket stitch to attach some circles to a dress, though I am not happy with how it turned out. I read that you are supposed to seperate the thread into 2 ply instead of 4 ply, but when i tried to sew with the 2 ly, it kept pulling apart and breaking! The 4 ply was too thick so for now i al giving up and going to re-sew the circles with my machine...... what a waste of time! Well, I suppose it was some sort of learning experience. Not too much going on otherwise, just a couple baby blankets and oh i crochet a toque for myself, which reminds me i need to put the tassles on the ties ......... it's a very cute earflap black basket weave pattern i made up!

I got some quick photos of the dress all finished! Mnd you none of me all gussied up with hair and make-up yet! i didn't use a pattern, just cut some rectangles and gathered here and there to fit me, then tried to sew an invisible zipper (huge disaster!!) so had my mom sew in a zipper then added some straps and tada! a maternity evening dress!

Busy Bumble Bee

I've been sewing up a storm lately! i've finished two elephants .... one of which is in my son's bed right now! The other is getting mailed to a friend's baby soon. Also I finished my leopard print dress for my husband's xmas party ...... it was a hit! I got lots of great comments on it! Now I am doing a couple crafts for xmas. I got a great pattern from planetjune on etsy.com for a baby beluga, so plan to make one for jackson and one for his cousin sarah. Then i have to sew on a couple cirle appliques to a dress and finish Jack's quilt. i am finally going to have a day to myself again when jackson goes to daycare on friday, so i should get some progress made. We only have 18 days left until our xmas travel marathon begins so I've tried to to give myself too much to do. I went to stay with my mom for a few days and made some fitted sheets for the baby bassinet that our new one will sleep in. What else??? that's about it for now! I'll get some photos on here!

I've been very busy doing lots of crafting. Finsihed a baby blanket, some baby hats, two polka dot elephants, a giant scarf, my dolls for the swap and my ATC's for another swap. Also I'm trying to work on a dress for an upcoming xmas party. these are the photos I have so far. oh and i'm still working on that baby .... over 1/2 way done now! i hope to get some photos of the elephants soon as i'm really quite happy with them!

i'm finishing up a lot of my october projects already! I've completed the black apple dolls (pics soon!) and almost finished the baby blanket. I have to make a couple small things for 2 of the halloween costumes and design and sew mine. I have this weekend and next to finish everything up, so hopefully I'll get it all done! I have been feeling under the weather lately, and thought I was getting better until this morning...... so not sure what this weekend will hold for me!

Sewing Up a Storm!

I've spend two hours today sewing dolls for a trade. The pattern is fairly simple, but the tricky part is turning the dolls the right way after sewing. I added a lot of extra fabric, so my little creation got stuck in a very funny position! the first photo is my doll, half turned and the second photo is of what the doll will look like eventually. I was supposed to have completed much more than, however this is all i've got! it's a cute little dress i made for my niece. she is one, so it should fit her next summer. i tried it on my son, who is two and it fit quite well! i had to make it 3" longer than the pattern, so it covers her bottom properly. it's reversable too!

My little baby bump requires new clothes! I didn't want to part with my skinny jeans, so i bought some that were a couple sizes larger and ade them into maternity pants. they are now as comfortable as my yoga pants!! I've been crochetting so much I've worked up a blister!! Haha ..... I am getting ready to do a craft fair this fall so am trying to get at least three items finished a week. I am working on hats, scarves and wrap/scarves right now and when i am sick of those I'll move on to some cute critters! I haven't been able to take and photos as our camera is on the fritz, but soon I'll post some photos, even if it is just some work in progress shots! I ordered some business cards finally for my shop! They are mini cards from moo.com and feature different photos of my past creations. I am so excited to have real business cards! I've seen people that I want to talk to and give out a card, but I just feel so unprofesional having homemade cards! An believe me, my homemade cards are pretty bad! Anyways that's all that is going on right now. Oh my sister and I have officially quite her dress. It is a HUGE pain in the butt, so I think my sis is going to as my mom to finish it! Mom to the rescue again! My sewing machine is now collecting dust and I crochet my little heart out!

Here is my barn and animal set that I finished for a swap! The barn is actually a bag to hold all the animals. It's my design, but not my idea. The woman who I was making it for picked it from another etsy shop. The cow actually turned out okay! I have a full summer of crochet lined up for myself! I decided to give sewing a rest and make some baby blankets and a toddler dress! I'm more than half way done the dress and just have to complete the border on the first baby blanket! After that I am going to try my hand at designing some fall/winter hats! I am so used to the instant gratification that is amigurumi! Right now I am working on a crochet baby blanket for some one and it feels as though it taking FOREVER! I know the last one i did (swirl baby blanket) took forever because it was in tons of pieces, but this one that is worked all in one piece, doesn't seem to be growing at a fast enough pace! I guess i will just have to have patience ..... or stay up til midnight finishing it! I'm doubting the later will happen as I've been up since 5am with my son! i'll post photos of the blanket once i've got more done ......... oh and for some reason my "ongoing project" list is GONE!!! I'll have to figure that one out when I return home!

I'm so busy I don't have time to even take photos! I am working on a baner for my son's 2nd birthday and have now finished the skimboard bag (photos soon!). The family and I went camping this past weekend for father's day so didn't get any crafting done of course! After i finish the banner I am going to do a quick set of drapes for a friend, then finish up some swaps! I have great ideas for my GHI ATCs! Can't wait to get going on those! Is this badass or what?!

I have been so busy with life and Jack that I haven't been doing ANY crafting! It's been so strange, but fairly relaxing. I have three swaps on the go and haven't started a single thing for them! I also have a slew of birthdays coming up, including Jack's, and haven't started any presents! Yesterday I stated a skimboard bag for my husband. It was supposed to be for father's day, however I doubt I'll get it done in time. Here is the outer part of the bag. It still needs a pocket and some straps. I have sewn the vinyl lining so that will be the last thing to put in. Alright I'm off to my knitting group to start another present!!

So I have completed my first "scrumbled" piece of art work for the gallery! It's 14" by 12". It's made from recycled shirts, scarves and yarn. I think it turned out really well! I can't wait to see if the curator likes it! The piece is called "Icarus" after the greek legend of icarus flying too close to the sun and having his wings melt off.

Running Out!

Help! I am running out of shrink plastic! What's a girl to do. I always hate going to Michael's, I just buy too much junk wneh I'm there! I am just about to bake my piece for the Shrink Swap, then I believe I'll be taking a break from shrinking plastics for a while. I want to get back into sewing. Also I want to get back into my Etsy Shop again! I'm planning on making some baby bonnets with the tattoo fabric as well as some sugar skull fabric and rose and skull fabric! They are going to be pretty cute! Not too much going on in the craft/art department. I was supposed to be working on something last night, but decided t spend the time with the ol' man. We've been spending a lot of time together lately, mostly out in the garden, but it's been fun!!

I am torn in a lot of different directions right now. I want to spend less time crafting, but i love it so much. why do i want to spend less time crafting? because it's summer and i can live outside most of the day!! cory and i are getting our garden in order and spending a lot of time at the beach. I still have quite a few projects that i MUST finish for birthdays and what not. Also I have quite a few craft swaps on the go! I really need to update my progress bar on this site! I'm finishing up the rockabilly swap monday and also a birthday present for a friend's daughter. After that I have a shrink plastic swap, and a 50's B-Movie swap going on! Not to mention my son's birthday and about 3 other kid's birthdays! So I have to get my butt in gear and do some crafting!! I have promised my husband no more swaps this summer (except the alphabet ATC's as it's a series!) so that will put an end to much of my crafting. So here is everything we did:

May 7th, Wednesday: Arrived at hotel, went for a long walk around neighborhood. Found great french deli and bakery. Went to the Natural History Museum (where they have dinosaur skeletons!)

May 8th, Thursday: Woke up feeling a bit il. Jack got sick on Cory at breakfast, cleaned up and met cory's cousin and daughter at Hyde Park. Returned to hotel. I started to get sick. Cry and Jack went ot Science museum while I slept. They returned and we took me to the hospital. Got back to hote very late!

May 9th, Friday: Moved hotels to Trafalgar Square. Went to Camden Lock Market, went to Piccadilly Circus and Carnaby Street

May 10th, Saturday: Walked to Buckingham Palace for the changing of the guard. Walked to London Eye and saw the 4 hour line-up. Walked across bridge to Big Ben and Houses of Parliment. Walked along South Bank to Tate Modern. Walked to St. Paul's and along various streets back to trafalgar square. Had dinner then hung out at Trafalgar Square.

May 11th, Sunday: Took bus to car rental place by Hyde Park and drove from London to Dumfries, stopping at varous places along the way (a 7 hour journey).

May 12th, Monday: Relaxed at Nana's, walked into town of Dumfries and went to Robert the Bruce Pub for lunch.

May 13th, Tuesday: Took scenic drive back to England and the Lake District. Visited Windemere and the Beatrix Potter Attraction. Took a different scenic route back to Nana's.

May 14th, Wednesday: Toured around with the realatives and went to Sweetheart Abby, tea, lunch at an icecream dairy farm (saw highland cows), then off to Caverlock Castle. Got a guided tour of Dumfries and surrounding areas. Discovered Belted Galloway Cows!

May 15th, Thursday: Met realatives for pancake lunch then wandered about town. Nana looked after Jack while Cory and I went out for our anniversary dinner.

May 16th, Friday: Got up early and went for a scenic drive to the seaside. Stopped at Sandyhill to play on the beach and Castle Douglas for lunch at the Mad Hatter cafe. Drove on to Threaves Castle, with a 3/4 mile walk as small boat ride to the castle. Came back to Nana's then went back to the icecream dairyfarm (there was a massive indoor and outdoor play area for jack ..... it wasn't JUST about the ice cream!)

May 17th, Saturday: Left for Edinburgh and spend a few hours dhopping and touring Edinburgh Castle. Drove on to Glasgow and did a bit more shopping.

May 18th, Sunday: Hopped on a plane home!

We're Back!

I tried to blog a couple of times while we were in the UK, to no avail. So here we are back at home! Nice and early too! I am getting al the photos from our camera, onto the computer right now, so tommorrow I'll post photos! We are pretty tired, but happily made our connecting flight from vancouver to victoria! If we had missed the flight we would be taking the ferry and not getting in until late this evening. So we had a great time. London was overwhelming and I got sick (food poisoning i think) and ended up in the hospital, due to not being able to keep anything down and feinting. London was realy hot and humid and our room was a bit dank and had no air-con, so we boiled! Even though I was out of commision for a good while we managed to see and do A LOT in London. Oh and the same day that I got sick jack got sick too. At the breakfast buffet in our hotel, he threw up al over Cory ..... terrible! But after that Jack was better. Our second hotel in London was much better and in a better location, so that half of the experience was better! We drove from London all the way to Dumfries (where my Nana lives) in just one day! We'd planned to stop in or near Manchester, but decided to keep going as Jack was being quite good in the car. Oh and they upgraded our rental car so we got a very nice Vauxhall Zafia! We took it pretty easy the first couple days in Dumfries, but after that went out on lots of adventures to castles, farms and many pubs! It was so nice to stay with my Nana, and feel relaxed and comfortable! I have so much more to say, but my hands are sore from typing so I'll write more tommorrow! Take care!

A Change?

I think I need a change. I'm wanting to get back to my roots, of art instead of cute crochet goodies. Not that I don't like making cute little critters, just that I feel I have more to give. I've been doing a lot of admiring on etsy and found quite a few shops I love. I am going to be featuring the first shop starting tommorrow. I plan to feature one shop a week. Tonight I will be busy putting the finishing touches on my bee bag and doing some much needed relaxing! Tommorrow plan to just hang out with the family and prepare for our trip. It's hard doing these relaxing things when I have so much creative energy bursting around, but I really do need to take it easy before our big journey!

Whirl Wind

I have been caught up in a great whirl wind of activity! I was in Nanaimo the weekend before last, then spent most of last week in Vancouver. This weekend I was busy working on stuff for one of my swaps and making things for our upcoming trip. The trip to the UK is coming so much faster than I imagined! I have almost finished my GIANT carry on bag and completed one sleep mask for myself. I've cut out the fabric for Jack's passport cover and hope to get that done this week. We have been having a great time together as a little family, it's so great how capable Jackson is now! We have also run into some more terrible temper tantrums though. On Granville Island Jack had a flailing, screaming, running fit that lasted for over 10 minutes ...... it was scarey as I was by myself and the only way off the island was by the slly little boats that run there. I felt helpless and very trapped, something I haven't ever felt! Motherhood sure is a ride!

The Other Presents!

So I completed the other presents for my friend and her wee one. (The tattoo diaper bag was one of the gifts) So here are the other two! The bonnet was a hit, but some of the great grandmas were a bit shocked i think! The family had a good little weekend in Nanaimo and are heading off to Vancouver tommorrow, for a few days! I'm hoping to get some stuff at Dressew ..... my favorite store in the world! Other than that we'll just be hanging out with Cory's cousin and toodling around town!

So I got a lot done when Jackson was in daycare! I finished a daiper bag, the swirl baby blanket and cut out a cape pattern for myself! I decided to put piping on the bag and it turned out fantastic, though it was harder than I thought! Here are photos of the bag and blanket! Also I'm doing two more projects for the baby shower, one which is cuper cute!! ack had a great day at daycare and was a little angel the next day! He's doing pretty well today aslo! I decided to sign up for another swap .... it's a smaller swap than the bird swap i did. It a rockabilly theme .... so excited about it! I am still waiting on my package from the bird swap! Oh I got all my cards from the ATC ABC swap and will have to post soon! OK off to crochet some more!

So tomorrow is my first day off. Jack is gong to daycare and it's exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time! I hav a million things i want to get done of course, but I have decided that i need to establish some sort of order for all my to-do's. I have a lot of housework to do, so i am going to try to do that first thing, so i don't get caught up doing crafts all day! In the afternoon I plan to do the baby shower gifts and finish off some birthday presents. Also I've been drawing as of late ( i'll post photos soon) so hope to get some of that in too. yikes! so much to do! Alright the wee one is in bed, time to get some "me" time in before the ful day of "me" time tomorrow!!!!!!

Some Things Done, Some About to Begin!

I have a lot of projects I want to make for the upcoming UK trip. I'd love a sleep mask, a passport cover, and a large stylis htravel bag. I already have the fabric for the bag, now just need to work on a pattern! I have competed a few projects this week as well! Here are photos of my latest crochet sculpture! It's also a working light! I've submitted three pieces to the gallery and hope that I'll get at least one crochet piece in there. My friend had her baby early, so I have to get going on her baby shower gifts. I also have a few birthdays coming up in April. My mom's gift is something that I started last year, intended for her previous birthday! I hope I can get it done in time! On another note poor Jack and I are sick again. Jackson is not napping or sleeping well. In fact we've been sleeping with him at night, otherwise he wakes up every hour screaming. *sigh* I don't think I'm going to get much one today!

Artist Trading Cards!

I've finished my first set of artist trading cards! Ive been wanting to get into this relm for a while now. I did a swap on craftster.org and the theme was ABC. So I've done one card for each letter and sent each card to a different person. I'll be receiving three different cards from three different people as well. I hope to participate in the whole alphabet swaps as they occur so I have a full set! For "A" I used a photo that the recipient liked. For "B" I chose an art nouveau feel and for "C" I did a cool collage! It was lots of fun and I was able to complete them in one night!

This feels so good!! It's been almost a year since I've completed a painting. I almost forgot what it feels like! It's an amazing, releasing experience. I always know when a painting is done because i don't feel as attatched to it. I figure when it's complete there are no pieces of it left in me, so it's released for good! So I started out making this bag for someone, but I realized that it was far too small, so now it's all mine , mwahahaha! I love it and can't wait to use it this weekend..... oh this weekend! Taking it Easy

This has been a pretty good week so far! I haven't really been doing any crafts or art. It's a nice change. I did do the punk bunny stamp, but that's about it! Today Cory assembled the shelving unit in Jacks' closet and then we all organized and purged in the garage. Now we have a rug and counch in the garage! It's a nice hang out spot, just needs a coat of paint and it'll be perfect! Tonight I'm going out with my sister and some friends .... something I rarely do! Then (hopefully) tommorrow I'll be getting a haircut! I'm going for a Louise Brooks bob I think! Before I go out tonight I might chop my fringe as it's down to my lips! Yesterday I bought some fabric to finish up and start a couple projects! I'm making a super cute ruffled apron or my sister, starting on the day of the dead table runners and finally getting to the old school tattoo diaper bag! I'm really excited about the diaper bag because it's a neat shape for a diaper bag! I'll post pictures as I go along. So it sounds like I'm taking a break from crochet stuff and heading into the sewing world! It's been far too long!

Lino Printing Instructions

Printing Instructions

Materials Required:

Speedball Water Soluble Ink

Speedball Roller

Paper

Lino Carving

Shiny Cardboard (such as a cereal box) or plate of flat glass (from a picture frame)

Before you start make sure that your lino carving is clean and dry.

Step One:

Place a small amount of ink on the center of your cardboard or glass

Step Two:

Place the roller on the ink and roll vertically as well as horizontally, spreading the ink so it is as wide as the roller is. Continue rolling until the ink on your cardboard/glass looks like an orange peel

Step Three:

Immediately roll the ink onto your block (ink can dry fast depending on temperature).so that all the raised areas are thoroughly coated with ink.

Step Four:

There are two ways of pulling a print now. The first one is as follows- Place paper on table and flip lino carving over so ink side is facing down. Place the lino carving on the paper and press down evenly without shifting the carving (otherwise it causes smudging). To remove lino carving from paper. Hold the edges of the paper with one hand and pull lino carving up without shifting.

The second is as follows – Leave you lino carving with the ink facing you. Place your paper on the lino carving and press down, evenly and firmly without shifting the paper or bending the edges over the lino carving. I use the back of a large spoon for this method. Carefully peel the paper off the lino carving, without shifting.

You may need to do a few pulls before you get the right amount of ink and pressure when printing. Re ink your lino carving for each pull. When adding more ink to your cardboard/glass add a very small amount, so you maintain that orange peel texture.

Okay so I've decided that in two weeks I have to get my tatto finished! I've got two bluebirds on my lower back that have been colorless for EIGHT years!!! What happened was that I had the appointment booked years and years ago to get the color work done, but when I went in the tattoo artist was ill, and I never rebooked the appointment! So here is what the little guys will look like soon! Mine don't have the crown as I didn't like it back then, but now I really like it, so hopefully he can add it on!

Crochet Sculpture #2

So here is my second attempt as crochet scultpure work! This one is for the gallery that is having it's next show in April! The theme is "Illumination" so I made this one look sort of like a hanging lamp! I crochet each layer, stiffened them and then strung them together. The sculpture's "arms" don't stick out as much as I'd like so I am going to have to add some supports. Other than that I am pretty happy with it! The sculpture is even reversable!

it seems that finding daycare is quite hard in this city! i have been on the waitlist for a very long time at many daycare centres and still have not found anything. i'm starting to look for family care instead of a daycare, though that makes me nervous! i just can't imagine letting my wee one go. it would only be for one day, but still....... it's hard! i did some more lino carvings last night and finished up another bowling for bunnies set. the rest of the week i am going to concentrate on art!

More Art, Less Craft

well not entirely true! I have been painting and am working on a small series right now. not sure of the titel yet, but when they are finished i'll know! i also found some resin and mold making stuf so will experiment with that in the coming weeks! i've ound some neat jewelry to make molds from! I'm working an a gorgeous set of sage and cream bowling for bunies set as well as the final draft of the pattern! My testers are hard at work making sure it's right. I've been doing a lot of family stuff this weekend and like last weekend will be doing a couple haircuts. I enjoy doing hair still, and it pretty well pays for any craft stuff that i buy during the week.... tried to post a photo, but didn't work!!!

There is one in particular that I'm excited about and it' called Etsy for Animals . I'll be donating some items as well as portions of my sales to local animal charities. I am joining some online groups that prmote your shop for you and also doing some posting on various websites I really don't know what I am doing, but have plunged in head first! Away From Home

I'm at my mom's right now and will be until the end of the week. It's nice and relaxing up here, except for the fact that my son decided that 5:30am is a great time to start the day! I'm sleeping in the same room as him so I can't just let him do his thing until 6:30 like I would at home. But today he stayed in his crib until 6:15, even though he was babbling the whole time. So today he's a bit more on schedule with meals and naps. I've brought three projects with me to work on.

2: Crochet Sculpture
3: Swirl Baby blanket

I've got 2 swirls done of the 13 I need to complete, but have misplaced my tapestry needle, so won't be assembling the blanket this week. I'm making the most progress on my sculpture, which I'm happy about. It's a very relaxing almost zen-like process, so it's the most enjoyable. I have done 4 layers and am working on the fifth. In total i think there are going to be six or seven layers so I'm almost done. When I get home I'll stiffen the layers and put it all together and it'll be complete! I've got an end of the month deadline for 3 art projects and the sculpture is the only one even close to being completed! The ABC art poster is coming along. I've figured out what to put on each square and penned the lettering, now i just have to draw all the images and paint them. Tonight I won't have time to work on anything as I'm joining a friend for her prenatal class. That should be a strange, but interesting experience! On Thursday Jackson is taking myself, mom and my friend out for dinner for Valentine's day! We'll be home in time for his bath/bedtime, so I'll hopefully get most of my projects finished that night.

Being away from home always makes me think of how much i need to do when i get home. I really want to focus on decorating the main living/dining area when i return. I've got a list of projects for the dining room and i won't have to buy anything for them! I'm trying really hard not to purchase craft/art stuff this month. So far i've done very well. I did buy some material, but i'd actually purchased it last month, the order just didn't go through properly so I had to re-order in the beginning of me "no shopping" month. So I don't think that really counts! Alright the wee one is asleep, time to craft!

Lino!!

I love lino carving, i really forgot how much i love it! Yesterday I decidedto alter some photos i had taken of my heartfelt critters. They looked really good as flat black and white images so i carved them up on lino and printed off some notecard sets! i plan on doing a few different sets. This first one is calle the Heartelt Critter Collection. So far I've only cared 2 stamps, but will do more, maybe in a couple weeks. I'm going away for a week, starting tomorrowso won't be doing much crafting. I am hoping to get some work done on my newest crochet sculpture! I had to scrap the first one I id, but here is a photo of the direction it was heading in!

Too Busy For Words!

I have had a really productive week so far! I've made 3 1/2 more scarflettes (or neckwarmers) like my gren one. I'll post photos when we actally get around to taking photos! Also I'v been exploring my art and where i want it to go. I was heading in this certain direction, but was feeling a bit lost and the i discovered something called "steampunk". it is a sci-fi type of art that takes place in victorian times and steam is the main power of things. bt it's a lot more complicated than that. anyways i realized that i've always liked steampunk realted stuff ( like city of lost children, gears, planes, etc.) and now i know hwere i want to take my art! is i've started sketching and coming up with some brilliant plans! i will have to see how this all pans out! Oh and good news! my crochet sculture is FINALLY dry and fairly stiff! now i just have to paint it a bit more and laquer it, then phtograph the finished results! i have another crochet sculpture that i am about to start, however it doesn't need to be stiff, so that's a relief! Oh and today i made a cute set for chels's friend who is having a baby soon. the little character is a rattle! i made a set like this before, only in navy and cream! Oh and I finished my painting for the birthday party tomorrow! what will i be up to next? no idea!!!

List Making

A few weeks ago I decided that the act of list making was taking away from the actual things I wanted to accomplish on said lists. So I stopped writing lists all toegther! I have since realized that was a big no-no for me! I forgot about all the prjects I had started and began new ones! So now I am back to list making and more than that ....... organizing and getting rid of some stuff! I am selling my PEZ collection, minus a few I simply must keep! I've totally reorganized my desk; even making a drawer divider for all my small desk items. Also I get Cory and myself to go through all our DVD's and get rid of 1/3 of them!! To help me oragnize little things I've put up a bulliton board. I've dedicated one area of the board to "This Weeks' Goal". Seeing my weekly goal written down will keep me focused. This week's goal is : "Purge and Oragnize everything you own BEFORE you purchase anything new!" So no more buying things!! I have a lot of organizing to do! And what I've gotten rid of so far makes me feel great! So yesterday and today I haven't done any projects. It's kind of a nice break. Though through all this organizing, I've discovered so many new ways I want to improve our house!! One day I'll get there! Alright off to do some more organizing!

A Break ....

I've been slacking BIG TIME! I'm finding some of the things i am doing to be rather difficult, or just boring, so I'v stopped doing things..... almost! Yesterday i made a neckwarmer/collar. It was a rectangle so required little brainpower or creativity! I'm really struggling with my crochet sculpture, but finally think i have found the answer! Nothing has been able to make it rock hard, so I am going to turn to resin! Like the kind used to coat a table..... this could get messy! I feel like I need to figure out what I have going on and stop half of my projects .... but which ones to focs on are the problem! I know I should finish the baby blanket (it was supposed to be an xmas present!!) and I should finish some more toys for my shop. Today my "Art of Resin Jewelry" book came in the mail and now I want to abandon everything to try jewelry making........ sadly none of the supplies I need seem to be available in Victoria! So I must put that on the back burner and just sketch my ideas for now! We'll see what happens tomorrow.

My New Projects!

So here are my two newest projects that i've completed! I love the birthday collage a lot! This was my first time taking collage seriously, and it was great fun! I finally figured out a good way to incorperate crochet into my paintings as well! I glued the fancy paper i used for the branches, on the sides, so i don't have to frame it! The next project is my first pull toy, though sadly he doesn't actually have working wheels ( i plan to work on that!). He was a lot of work, but well worth it! I've decided to sell him on my etsy shop as a decorative item. also i am thinking of dropping the whole "Jack-A-Ruu" name and just putting all my creations under "Homespun Sun" . I think it might get too complicated having two business names! What does everyone think of that??

So Many Things Accomplished!

I am so happy with how this weekend has been going! I am putting the finishing touches on 2 major projects! One is my prototype pull toy that is also going to be a gift for my friend's new baby boy! The second project is my birthday collage for my friend's daughter's first birthday! It's too late to take photos, so I'll add more tomorrow. Also Chels finished my banner for my etsy store! Next week I thnk we may be going up to TNM, which will be a much deserved break! I've promised Cory that there will be no yarn on the trip! I feel like a need a vacation from crafting after all the xmas gifts and now the business beginings! Two new projects that I hope to start next week are making a mexican day of the dead diorama and also venturing into the realm of resin casting! I've been wanting to make a diorama for a few years now, so that will be fullfilling. The resin is a new craft inspired by the many postings on craftster! Alright time to finish cleaning up and head to bed, and the best part is that it's my turn to sleep in tomorrow morning!!!

I've been going in a diferent direction this past week. More towards collage and art! I'm currently working on a piece for my friend's baby's first birthday! Also I'm brainstorming for a large piece that will take up one of my bare kitchen walls. I've been doing some bodies and ears for different heartflet critters, but have noe desire to crochet arms and legs or them at this point in time. I've come up with a cute design for my pull along toys, and have started two of them! Other than that I've just been trying to balance homelife with my ongoing projects! My, my I've come up with some wonderful ideas for this coming year! I've finally opened my ETSY shop ( www.jackaruu.etsy.com)and will start working on some projects for my business! I've decided to focus on a few toys and also some bags. Tonight Chels is coming over to help design my new logo for my line!! I'm so excited about that! I've also decided to try and complete one personal (not related to the business) project a week.

I was inspired by A Marvelous Trousseau . This woman is going to make one outfit a week for the year!! Wow, most of my person projects are going to be pretty small! Anyways so here is my first personal project of the new year, a cute cropped cardigan! I started it on January 2nd and finished it up late last night!

It's from a pattern found here . I changed the bottom stitch from a sheel to a puff and like it a lot better, also the puff stitch is much faster!

Frightful Frockss to Goddess Gown

Wow this was a lot of work, but tons of fun!!! I started with three super ugly moo moos (about $15 total), cut them into strips and sewed each strip together to make my own "yarn". Then I designed the pattern, doubled up my homemade "fightful frock yarn" with some nice grey silky yarn and crochetted for a few hours until voila! the goddess gown was born!! It's the most comfortable, cozy, sensual dress I've ever worn! The pattern is done in a fairly open stitch, so I'll wear a grey slip under it. The gown has got a lot of weight to it, and the bottom of the dress really kicks up when I walk, it's almost cartoonish! The dress is for my husband's Christmas party. When I wore it to the event it looked great but because the bottom was so heavy, it dragged on the ground and a few times my heels got caught in the holes and sent me flying ...... not too graceful, but funny! I had to zip into the bathroom and unravel a few rows to make it safer and easier to move around in! hehe... it was pretty funny!

I got disctracted from what I was supposed to be making and decided that my newly rearranged bookshelf needed a little friend. My son likes to drag my ami's around by the tails before i weave them in so I decided to make this one actually look like a pull toy! Also for the first time instead of just using a ball for the head, I actually put a little muzzle on it!

"My First Amigurumi" Pattern

I decided to write up and document a very easy pattern for people who would like to try making a cute critter. Once you getthe hang of things you can make up different shapes for the head, body and apendages. Also you can make other animals pretty easily by just changing the face, or ears! Let me know how the pattern is as I just kind of wrote as I crochetted!

I used worest weight yarn and a 3.5mm hook, but start out with a bigger hook if you find it too small. Never turn work, this is done is a spiral. once you get the hang of it, you don't really needthe marker, just count as you go!

Pattern:

HEAD:

ch 2

Round 1: 6 sc in second ch from hook (6 sc)

Round 2: insert hook in the first sc you did and sc 1 in it. mark this stitch (grey yarn).

1 sc in the marked st and 2 sc in each st until you are back at the marked st. (12 sc)

Round 3: 1 sc in next st (move marker up to this st), 2 sc in the next st, *1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next sc- repeat until you reach the marked st (18 sc)

Round 4: move marker up to the next "row" when started. *1 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st- repeat from * until you reach marked st (24 sc)

Round 5: move marker up, 1 sc in each st (24 sc)

Rounds 6-8: repeat round 5, moving marker up to first st in row each row.

Round 9: move marker up, * 1 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st, sk next st, 1 sc in next st (decrease made) - repeat from * until you reach marked stitch (18)

add eyes ( i use plastic toy ones) and stuff your head.

Round 10: move marker up, * 1sc in first st, sk next st, 1 sc in next st (decrease made) -repeat from * until you reach marked stitch (12 sc)

Round 11: move marker up, * sk first st, 1 sc in next- repeat from * until you reach marked stitch (6 sc).

Slipstitch to first st, Fasten off leaving a long tail ( 8 ")

Follow instructions from round 1 to 3 in head (18sc)

Rounds 4-11: 1 sc in each st until you reach marked st (18 sc)

Stuff body.

Round 1: 8 sc in second ch from hook (8 sc)

Slipstitch to first sc and fasten off leaving a tail, making sure to pull BEGINNING tail tightly.

Round 1: 4 sc in second ch from hook

Round 2: insert hook in the first sc you did and sc 1 in it. then do one more sc in same st. Contine around with 2 sc in each st done (8 sc)

Slipstitch to first st and fasten off, leave a tail.

ASSEMBLY

Weave in all BEGINNING tails for head, legs, ears and tail, but leave the END tail to secure to body/head. For body, weave in both tails. For arms weave n END tail only.

Sew head, arms, leg and tail to body. Sew ears to head. Weave in all tails. Sew or glue on a little nose and mouth using embroidery thread or felt. Don't forget to make it cute! It has to be cute!

Now pose your little bear and do a little photo shoot!

Right now I am working on a lot of projects! I am finishing up a frog halloween costume for my son. I crochetted the hat and "warts" on the back, and sewed the rest. Also I am crochetting a pair of bunny slippers, though they are takinga back seat to the many birthday and xas gifts i am starting! I am also working on the felt mascosts from the aranzi aronzo book, but translating them into crochet pattern. So far I've finished the lizard, though he really isn't right. I'll keep updating and posting new photos as things progress!
